From the new studio, I send greetings ~

Hello Folks!

I'm living in a new home now, having moved back to SE Portland since my last post in July. The Brooklyn neighborhood is pretty cool, and I believe I'll enjoy it immensely. There is a culture here that was lacking where I last lived, and I missed it quite a lot!

Here are some sketches I've done in the meanwhile ~ hope you enjoy them!

Cheers,

Mark

I've been slacking!

Saturday, the 26th of July ~

Greetings from Clackamas,

We're enjoying a fine summer day here in the Portland area, and it's perfect for getting out and about. So I'll make this short and sweet! I've another sketch to share with you: another rooster, full of attitude!

Cheers, and have a great weekend!

A Tale of Two Sketches ~

Greetings!

Time to share a couple of sketches from the last week ~ little things done while out and about in the Sellwood and Portland area. There seems to be a bit of an Australian theme going on here!

Cheers!

A Hot Ride to Sellwood, and a Sketch ~ July 6th, 2014

Pedaled over for a cup of joe this morning, and got some sketching done. A beautiful morning in Sellwood — at Ugly Mug Coffeehouse. I got to thinking about my favorite dog, and I guess it's the English Bulldog. These fellows are so full of character that they are practically bursting!

Enjoy!

Sketch of the day, July 4th, 2014

Sketching at the Cosmo!

And so I found myself out and about on the 4th, spending a fine day with a wonderful friend. We enjoyed a great breakfast out at the Cup and Saucer, on Hawthorne Blvd, and a scary movie after that, eventually ending up in Sellwood, at the Cosmo Lounge, where we ordered a couple of drinks, and began to sketch ~ this little ditty is what I came up with.

Enjoy!

The Evening of June 26th... Mark visits the pub.

Greetings, fair world!

After a long, ten hour shift at the "job," I decided to head out of Milwaukie, and wander on over to the Hawthorne Lucky Lab Brew Pub. There, I settled into a comfortable spot, and began to draw. Well, first came a few sips of some tasty stout, the Black Lab Stout, then came the sketching.

I decided to toss another one of our favorite feathered friends into the mix, and below you will find the outcome of ale, and pen.

Cheers!

Loggerhead Turtle, a sketch ~

Happy Sunday, Folks!

A little something from Saturday ~ pen & ink, in my 5.5 X 8.5 inch journal ~ Loggerhead Hatchling! I'd love to have one of these little critters, but of course it wouldn't be quite legal, would it? And weighing in at around 250 pounds or so, they would be a bit of a handful ~

Cheers!

A Chick Walks Into A Bar.....

Greetings from near Portland ~

It looks like the rain is back, and I really don't mind it. This kind of weather is fine for catching up on a good book, or doing some sketching indoors. My latest sketch was drawn a couple of nights ago at The Lucky Labrador Brew Pub, in SE Portland. I think it kind of speaks for itself!

Cheers,

Mark

Sketch of the day: June 9th ~ Belmont Goat!

Happy Monday!

We visited The Belmont Goats in SE Portland a couple of weekends ago: this pen and ink sketch portrays one of the members of that herd ~ a very friendly critter that posed for us, and asked for a lengthy back-rub.
Micron 02 and 05 pens in my little 5.5 X 8 inch sketch pad.

Daily Sketch: 6.6.14 ~ Rooster!

Greetings, and Happy Friday!

I started this sketch early yesterday morning, just before work and didn't have a chance until after work tonight to do that proud bird justice, so here is the latest sketch of the day, for two days! The morning sketching consisted of about twenty minutes or so of pencil, and tonight perhaps an hour of inking....... so perhaps it's a bit more than a sketch, but still not a polished drawing.

Cheers!

Sketch of the Day, 6/3/14 ~ Raven

Hello, Folks ~

Well, I started a quick sketch of the day before bed and got only a little into it, so this one could be continued at a further date. In any case, it's a study of a raven, in pen & ink. I love ravens and crows, and they are always a challenge!

My humble Studio ~ 6/3/14

Greetings and salutations!

Many artists spend much of their time outside, sketching and painting the world around us. I sometimes do that, but I'm also often inside when I'm toying with my artsy-fartsy stuff. I thought I'd share an image or two of my home studio, and some of the tools I often use.

Cheers!

Sketch of the Day: June 2, 2014 ~ Rooster!

Greetings from Clackamas!

Today was a fine, beautiful day off, third of four before heading back to the coal mines of my regular job at the warehouse, better known as Things From Another World! I spent the morning with a dear friend, then wandered on home to ponder my sketchbook ~ out of which came today's pen & ink drawing of the rooster displayed before you. I hope you enjoy it!

Cheers,

Mark

Sketch of the Day, 31st of May. Rooster!

Greetings, folks!

Just a quick sketch of a rooster before heading out to investigate a possible sketching opportunity: The Belmont Goats, in Portland. That should be interesting. As for the rooster, he looks like he could use a few bugs to chew on before things get out of hand......

Pen and ink, as usual for me ~

Cheers!

Sketch of the day, May 29th. Flying Pig II.

Hello Again,

I sat down late last night to get a bit of sketching in, and after a number of possible subjects, I decided to use another cast-iron winged pig as my target. A friend of mine owns several of these curiously goofy and fun to draw critters, so...... easy choice at 10:00PM. Pen & Ink, and a bit of hard cider were used in the creation of this sketch.

Cheers!

Sketch of the Day: May 27th

A Pig!

I love pigs. They're funny, odd looking, and quite smart. They can be such goofy individuals, full of character and obvious intelligence. Today's sketch, rendered in pen & ink, presents one of these unique fellows.

Cheers!

Sketch of the Day #6, The Fennec Fox!

 Hello, Folks,

For sketch number six, I chose to study several images of the fennec fox, the world's smallest fox, and native to the Sahara Desert of North Africa. It's rendered in pen & ink in the small sketchbook I'm using for this sketching project.

Cheers!

Sketch of the Day: #5 ~ A Pig can fly!

This little fellow made a fine subject for day five in my ongoing sketching project.  He's one of those cool, vintage cast-iron winged piggy banks ~ First, I did a simple pencil sketch to get the form, then worked in the rest with a couple of Micron pens.

Sketched on Sunday evening, May the 25th, in Milwaukie, Oregon, 2014.
